In addition to editing documents yourself, we also use spell and grammar check. Take a look at these online spelling and grammar checkers.

Every time we type a document, we make mistakes. For every mistake we make, we rely on the ever-popular spell check provided by Microsoft Word. Not only does it find spelling errors, it corrects grammar errors as well. Anyone, more specifically writers, journalists, and English majors, can use spell check because it helps polish their documents to be their absolute best. But did you know that you can spell check online? Here are some websites that provide spell checking.

Orangoo

This list of spell checkers work like this: Type or paste a document in the box, then click the "Check Grammar" button with the blue checkmark. A window opens. By default errors will be checked first. The very top middle is the grammar button for sentence and punctuation errors. Then if you want, click "thesaurus" at the top right for suggestions on getting similar words without using the same word over and over. For all three, the mistakes and errors are in red and underlined in a step-by-step fashion. Their suggestion is at the bottom left while your choices are at the bottom right. Select "finished checking" when done. The corrections are made to the document, and that’s it.

The next set of spell/grammar checkers work the same way. Type or paste any document in the box, then click the check spelling button (for translated.net it is automatic). Anything wrong will be highlighted in color and underlined. Click that word and a menu appears. Scroll to pick the right word, then click resume editing when done.

IESpell

Now this spell checker is made as a browser extension to internet explorer. This checks the words you type on a webpage, like blogs and comments you make on forums. It will install as a button on your toolbar, in your tools section of the menu bar, and as an option when you right click. It works like Microsoft Word spell check because it integrates with Word, sharing the same dictionary and proofing tools. It also gives you the option of checking an online dictionary if you are not familiar with a word.

Other online spell checkers are Spell Check Plus, Spellex Spell Checker, Jspell, Checkdog, Respelt, and English Writing.

Remember: these spell/grammar checkers catch things you may have missed and are helpful additions, but they are not substitutes to checking out the mistakes yourself. Regardless, keep these spell checkers handy; it will make anyone’s typing experience a lot easier.
